Valparai AIADMK MLA Amul Kandasamy announces hunger strike Nov 13 against supposed closure of TANTEA

MLA Amul Kandasamy, who conducted a surprise inspection at the Valparai health centre in Coimbatore, said he would go on a hunger strike on November 13 to demand that the Tamil Nadu government stop shutting down the management of tan tea.

Coimbatore: Two days ago, patients at the Government Primary Health Centre (PHC) hospital in Valparai in Coimbatore district suffered without a doctor, nurse, pharmacist and medical staff.

Following this, Valparai MLA Amulkandasamy inspected the primary health centre on Monday.

During the inspection, Block Medical Officer Babu Lakshmanan said that there was a shortage of doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital as those who had already worked here had been relocated.

Valparai MLA Amul Kandasamy said that “the issue of shortage of medical staff will be immediately conveyed to the Tamil Nadu government and steps will be taken to appoint doctors.

The livelihood of the tan tea workers will be affected as the Tamil Nadu government is working towards shutting down the tan tea management. Due to this, a hunger strike will be held in Valparai along with the TANTEA workers on the 13th, demanding that the closure of the tan tea management be stopped.”
