Health Mistakes to Stop Before You’re 40

Life begins at 40, when you know what you're doing. When you're young, you feel like you can live forever. However, yourealize this is not true as time passes. Make sure you don't realize too late, especially when it comes to your health. Your bad habits and even the things you accept as safe can affect your health badly. Don't let health and lifestyle blunders affect you in midlife. Here are some changes that your body will benefit from as you grow older:

Avoid Blue Lights: According to a Harvard study in 2011, blue lights that emanate from TVs and handheld devices can increase the risk of several diseases and conditions, including:

  • Type 2 diabetes.
  • Heart disease.
  • Obesity.
  • Insomnia.

Make sure stand up and do something else for 10 minutes every hour before you resume your work on your devices.

Brush Your Teeth and Floss: Many people brush their teeth, but skip flossing. This should always be a part of your routine as it helps remove plaque that can build up and become like cement. Gum disease is actually common in people who are in their 40s. Some even have this when they're 30. There have been many studies that proved gum disease and heart disease are connected to each other.

Stop Fasting: You want to look good fast, so instead of dieting the right way, you choose to fast during daytime. Unfortunately, skipping meals will not help make you slimmer. In fact, there is a huge chance you will overeat or binge on junk food. Additionally, not eating meals will slow down your metabolism and can lead to type 2 diabetes. Adults who are at least 40 have more than 66% of acquiring diabetes. The solution to this is quite easy. Simply eat a healthy breakfast that will not only help you lose weight, but also increase energy and focus.

Get Regular Checkups: A lot of people don't go to their doctors because they are embarrassed and afraid. Even the medical bills scare them. A few dollars on prescription drugs are definitely much easier to shell out than when you are in the hospital bed because of a severe disease. Many people end up regretting their choices because it turned out that they could have avoided hospitalization if they just let a doctor diagnose their condition. Instead of dodging your doctor, visit the clinic once a year or whenever you feel something is different with your body. It also helps if you have a list of questions prepared, so that you will get the answers to your concerns.

Get back on track by fixing health errors you think will not cause you any problems once you hit 40. Take care of yourself while you are still young, so that you will be rewarded as you grow older.
