Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, Balakrishnan (54), his 17-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter were rushed to the hospital after allegedly consuming pesticide at their residence in Arumugagoundanur, near Perur in Coimbatore. While the girl died, her father and brother are reportedly in critical condition.
The girl, who had reportedly been in a coma for around two-and-a-half years, died while being transported to the hospital. Meanwhile, her father and brother are undergoing critical treatment at Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital.
According to the police, Balakrishnan, who was employed by a daily newspaper, had quit his job to take care of his 15-year-old daughter, who had reportedly been in a comatose state for the past two-and-a-half years after suffering a brain haemorrhage. His 17-year-old son had completed Class 12 but had not yet joined college. Balakrishnan’s wife, Porselvi, works as a professor at a college.
On Saturday, Balakrishnan reportedly informed his neighbour, Nataraj, that they had consumed pesticide meant for coconut trees. Shocked by the information, Nataraj immediately called a 108 ambulance, which rushed to the spot.
The girl died while being transported to the hospital, while Balakrishnan and his son are undergoing critical treatment at Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital.
Based on a complaint filed by Porselvi, a case is being registered at Perur Police Station. Police have launched a further investigation to determine the circumstances and reasons behind the incident.
