Coimbatore: A quiet tribute to the Father of the Nation marked Gandhi Jayanti at the Coimbatore Corporation headquarters on Friday.
Coimbatore Mayor Ranganayagi Ramachandran paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Corporation’s main office premises on October 2, marking his birth anniversary. She garlanded the statue and paid her respects.
Following the tribute, the Corporation held an awareness initiative on waste segregation for residents from Wards 37, 38 and 39 in the Central Zone. Four types of waste collection bins were distributed to the public to encourage them to segregate waste at source.
Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, Deputy Mayor R. Vettriselvan, Deputy Commissioner T. Kumaresan, City Health Officer Dr. Subash Gandhi and other Corporation officials and elected representatives participated in the programme.
