Rename Coimbatore Int’l Airport as Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Airport: KMDK MP VS Matheswaran Petitions Union Minister

Namakkal MP VS Matheswaran met Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi, submitting a petition to rename Coimbatore Airport after Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder. The Minister assured to discuss the matter in the cabinet.



Coimbatore: Namakkal Member of Parliament VS Matheswaran met Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi today to submit a petition regarding the renaming of Coimbatore International Airport.

The MP requested the Minister to consider renaming the airport as "Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Airport" in honor of the revered freedom fighter from the region. Dheeran Chinnamalai was a Tamil chieftain and palayakkarar who fought against the British East India Company during the Polygar Wars.

In response to the petition, Minister Ram Mohan assured Matheswaran that the matter would be discussed in the cabinet meeting and appropriate action would be taken. The renaming of airports often involves a complex process requiring approvals from various governmental bodies and considerations of historical and cultural significance.
