Coimbatore: Coimbatore Airport has strengthened its air connectivity with Bengaluru with the introduction of twice-daily Air India Express services from November 1, giving passengers additional travel options between the two cities.
The morning service commenced on November 1, while the evening service was introduced earlier, on October 25. The new services follow the successful launch of twice-daily Coimbatore–Mumbai flights by Air India Express on September 1.
Under the revised schedule, the morning Bengaluru–Coimbatore flight departs Bengaluru at 7.20 am and arrives in Coimbatore at 8.25 am. The return flight leaves Coimbatore at 9.10 am and reaches Bengaluru at 10.05 am. In the evening, the Bengaluru–Coimbatore service departs at 7.10 pm and arrives at 8.15 pm, while the return flight leaves Coimbatore at 8.50 pm and reaches Bengaluru at 9.35 pm.
With these additions, connectivity between Coimbatore and Bengaluru has increased to five flights daily in each direction, offering approximately 2,000 seats both ways through Air India Express and IndiGo. The increased capacity represents a 30 per cent rise, while the additional competition is expected to help keep airfares competitive.
The revised timings are expected to particularly benefit IT and software professionals, business travellers and international passengers by providing convenient connections through Bengaluru to destinations including London and other global cities.
The Coimbatore NXT Aviation Task Force has also urged Air India Express to introduce Coimbatore–Chennai services at the earliest, citing the substantial business and passenger movement between the two cities.
Effective November 1, Coimbatore Airport's domestic flight schedule comprises a total of 26 daily flights, offering approximately 5,300 seats to various destinations.
Chennai has seven daily flights at 8.45 am, 11.30 am, 12.40 pm, 3.40 pm, 5.25 pm, 6.15 pm and 9.50 pm. Mumbai has five services at 6.35 am, 8.45 am, 11.55 am (NMI), 4.55 pm and 9.05 pm. Bengaluru has five flights at 9.10 am, 10.15 am, 4.35 pm, 8.50 pm and 10 pm. Delhi is connected through four daily flights at 8.25 am, 3.55 pm, 6.45 pm and 8.30 pm, while Hyderabad also has four services at 9.30 am, 2 pm, 6.05 pm and 9.30 pm. Pune has one daily flight at 2.55 am.
The international flight schedule comprises 16 services a week, offering approximately 3,000 seats to three overseas destinations. Singapore has a daily service departing at 11.40 pm, while Sharjah has five weekly services departing at 4 am. Abu Dhabi is connected through four weekly flights departing at 12.15 pm.
The expansion of air services is expected to strengthen Coimbatore's access to domestic and international markets and support economic growth across the Western Tamil Nadu region.
