Water level of Siruvani Dam has dropped to 28 feet

Drinking water was supplied daily at the quantity of 97-MLD to 103-MLD from the Siruvani Dam. Currently, the water level of the dam is declining and with the onset of summer, the water level of the dam has dropped to 28 feet.


Coimbatore: With the onset of summer, the water level of Siruvani Dam has dropped to 28 feet.

The Siruvani Dam in Palakkad, Kerala is the main source of drinking water for the 30-wards of Coimbatore. In addition, the Siruvani Dam supplies drinking water to a number of villages along the way.

The dam water level touched 45-feet last year due to continuous rains in Coimbatore and the Western Ghats. The Siruvani Dam is 49-feet high.

Coimbatore has been without rain for the last few months. Due to this, the water level of the dam has dropped to 28 feet. An official of the PWD said, "The water level in the Siruvani dam has dropped by 11 feet in a single month.

Drinking water was taken daily from 97-MLD to 103-MLD from the Siruvani Dam. Currently, the water level of the dam is declining. With the onset of summer, the water level of the dam has dropped to 28 feet.

Thus 60-MLD of water is now released daily from the dam. Of this, 53-MLD is being supplied to the city of Coimbatore and the rest to the villages.”
