Coimbatore: Putting an end to the speculations and misinformation regarding arrangements made at water bodies including Muthannan Kulam for idol immersion, sources from City Police have clarifiedthat they are meant for regulating the public who come to immerse the idols, as permitted by the High Court.

Tension sparked amid the Hindu outfits including BJP after Tamil Nadu CM firmly announced that Vinayakar Celebrations will be a low-key affair this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. Opposing the celebration ban, Hindu Outfits announced of installing 1.5 lakh Vinayagar Statues throughout the state ans celebrate it the customary way.

Following which the Madras HC told the people and Hindu Outfits to follow the protocol issued by the TN State government. However, the HC allowed public to immerse the idols in water bodies by maintaining social distancing and other Covid norms.

With another day for the celebrations, arrangements were made at Muthannan Kulam in Coimbatore by fixing barriers and tubelights which made the public wonder the reason. Speculations were rife that barriers could be a precautionary measure to prevent Hindu outfits staging demonstrations or attempting to immerse the idols.

Clarifying the issue, sources from City Police have informed that the temporary structures are built for the public to line-up to immerse the idols by maintaining social distancing.

They also firmly said that no permission has been granted to any of the Hindu outfits to conduct public idol installation, gatherings, meetings or visarjan. Any attempts will attract legal action, they warned.
