Coimbatore Corporation held a Dengue Awareness Street programme on September 19, 2026, in Gandhipuram and New Sithapudur Annapurna Layout under Ward 67, Central Zone. Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja inaugurated the event, inspected mosquito-fogging machines and breeding containers displayed as an exhibit, watched a rangoli competition on dengue awareness, and felicitated students for their awareness speeches. A fever detection camp was held, nilavembu kudineer distributed, and residents took a health pledge. Similar programmes will be held every Saturday across 6,959 streets in all five zones, with hostel areas targeted next week.
Coimbatore: A Dengue Awareness Street programme highlighting multi-pronged dengue prevention measures was held on Saturday (19.09.2026) in Gandhipuram and New Sithapudur Annapurna Layout, under Ward 67 of the Central Zone of Coimbatore Corporation, led by Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja.
During the event, the Commissioner signed a banner carrying dengue awareness messages reading "Let us contribute as people. Let us eradicate dengue" to launch the awareness activities. He also inspected an exhibit set up for public viewing, which displayed mosquito-fogging machines and containers where dengue-causing mosquitoes breed.
Young people, boys, girls and women took part in a dengue awareness kolam competition held as part of the programme to spread awareness. Senior citizens voluntarily distributed dengue awareness pamphlets door to door in the locality. A mobile medical team also conducted a fever detection camp in the area, and nilavembu kudineer was distributed to the public.
Earlier, the Commissioner took photographs with health department officials and the public at a dengue awareness selfie point. He appreciated and awarded prizes to Arutchelvi, Vaishnavi and Arthi Sree, students of Sithapudur Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School, for their speeches raising dengue awareness, and viewed a short film on dengue prevention awareness. Prizes were also given for rangoli drawn as part of the day's programme.
Residents staying at two women's hostels located in the area enthusiastically took part in the programme and helped raise dengue prevention awareness among the public. Similar Dengue Awareness Street programmes will be held every Saturday across 6,959 streets in all five zones. The Commissioner also announced that dengue prevention measures and awareness programmes will be conducted in hostel areas next week, and appreciated the health officials and staff who organised the event.
The Commissioner urged the public to take part enthusiastically in such programmes and contribute towards eradicating dengue. After planting saplings, a health pledge on dengue awareness was administered under the Commissioner's leadership, taken by Corporation officials, school students, mosquito control workers, students of Sri Ramakrishna Nursing Training School, and members of the public.
