'Sick elephants in Coimbatore Forest Division should be offered treatment immediately' - Principal Chief Conservator of Forests

Coimbatore: Principal Chief Conservator of Forests S. Yuvaraj has ordered for a detailed report on the elephants that have been dying and falling sick in the forests of Coimbatore District.

Coimbatore: Principal Chief Conservator of Forests S. Yuvaraj has ordered for a detailed report on the elephants that have been dying and falling sick in the forests of Coimbatore District.

He conducted a video conference with the special team investigating the death of elephants regarding the measures being undertaken. He enquired regarding the measures taken to protect wildlife and prevent human-wildlife conflict.

The meeting was attended by the Coimbatore District Conservator of Forest Anwardeen, District Forest Officer Venkatesh, District Forest Veterinarian Sukumaran andWWF member Boominathan. It was also attended by the team's President Sekar Kumar Neeraj, members of the team including the Madurai Forest Ranger Anand, and veterinarians Dr. Sivaganesh, Dr, Kalaivanan, Dr, Arivazhagan and Dr. Pradeep.

Based on this, S.Yuvaraj has ordered for the treatment of the elephant that was injured in the mouth due to blasting of 'Outtukaai' in the Mangarai area near Anaikatti. Further, he ordered for sick elephants to be offered treatment as soon as they are spotted ill. He has also ordered an investigative report of the elephants in the Mettupalayam and Sirumugai areas.

The Special team has also been ordered to conduct intensive research about the elephants in the Coimbatore Forest Division and present a report that can be used to make quick and permanent decisions.
