Coimbatore: A lorry carrying ration supplies to tribal settlements in Lower Poonachi near Pollachi got stuck in the mud and was freed only after many hours of struggle by the locals.

There are 18 tribal settlements in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve and more than 1,000 people reside in the Vellimudi, Kadamparai and Poonachi areas. They are being provided with free ration supplies by the State government.

The ration supplies brought to the settlements from Valparai are distributed to the locals. Due to the heavy monsoon rains that have been pouring down incessantly, the roads leading to the tribal settlements are filled with potholes.

On many occasions, the lorries bringing the ration supplies get stuck in the mud and cause accidents.

Under the circumstances, a lorry carrying ration supplies to Lower Poonachi today got stuck in mud and was released after a few hours of struggle by the locals.

Speaking about this, the locals said, "Lorries carrying ration supplies to our area get stuck in the mud sometimes. This has even led to ration supplies not being able to reach our places. Since we live in the forest areas, sometimes we have to struggle with the lack of food. Hence we request the government to repair these roads."
