Water level at Siruvani dam reaches 31.42 feet; rains could fill the dam up soon

Coimbatore: Heavy monsoon rains in the catchment areas of the Siruvani dam has brought about an increase in the water level at the dam. The water level that was previously 28.44 feet has now become 31.42 feet.

The Siruvani dam that is the primary source of water supply for the people of Coimbatore provides water to 36 wards within the corporation and 100's of villages on its way.

The reservoir spans 22.47 square kilometers, is 49.53 feet high, is situated 878.5 meters above sea level, and has a total capacity of 650 million cft.

Heavy rains, ever since the monsoon set in and the incessant rains for the past few days in the catchment areas have led to the increase of the water level in the Siruvani dam to 31.42 feet. A total of 2mm rainfall was recorded in the dam area yesterday.

A Corporation official said, "It is expected that the heavy monsoon rains in the catchment areas of the Siruvani dam could fill up the dam. 78 MLT water has been taken from the dam to provide drinking water on behalf of the Corporation."
