Siruvani dam reaches 28.44 feet

The monsoon rains in the catchment areas of the Siruvani dam have led to the increase of the water level in the dam. On a single day the areas near the dam received 200 mm of rainfall as a result of which the water level in the dam increased from 24.11 feet to 28.44 feet.

Coimbatore: The monsoon rains in the catchment areas of the Siruvani dam have led to the increase of the water level in the dam. On a single day the areas near the dam received 200 mm of rainfall as a result of which the water level in the dam increased from 24.11 feet to 28.44 feet.

The Siruvani is the prime source of water for the people of Coimbatore. 36 wards in the Coimbatore Corporation and hundreds of villages on the way are provided with the drinking water from the Siruvani dam. The dam can store water over an area of 22.47 square kms, is 49.53 feet tall and 878.5 meters above sea level. The water holding capacity of the dam is 650 million cubic feet.

Since the monsoon rains have been pouring heavily in the catchment areas of the dam, the water level dam has risen. The rainfall over the past few days in the catchment areas has led to the increase of the dam water level to 28.44 feet.

The rainfall on a single day, a couple of days ago, was 300 mm. Yesterday the recorded rainfall was 200 mm.

A Corporation official said, "101 MLT water is being taken from the Siruvani dam on behalf of the Corporation for the supply of drinking water."
