When the public in the Aliyar residential area of Pollachi informed the Forest Department that a python was in the residential area, they did not expect to be asked to do the dangerous work by themselves. However, that is what unfolded shortly.
It’s been alleged by the locals that the Forest Department refused to attend to the situation stating that they do not catch pythons and Insteadasked the public to catch the python and bring it to them. The people of the locality then took control of the situation and caught the python and took it to the Aliyar Forest department check post to hand it over to the Forest department.
The people have appealed that in future, the forest department staff must volunteer to help the public during such situations. Untrained people engaging in snake capture could pose danger to both the reptile and the humans.
Finally, the area residents themselves caught the snake and handed it over to the foresters in the Aliyar Check post.
