Nature had received the much needed breather from industrial pollution to renew its state thus making the wildlife life a better life. A few days ago, an English daily reported that there was a shortage of animal feed in Vandalur Park. If this is the case for the Vandalur Zoo, which is maintained at a huge cost, then we thought we should visit the VOC Zoo in Coimbatore to understand the state of affairs here.
VOC park is one of tourist attractions in Coimbatore. It is good to see the park without any public movement. The animals also were found to be active in the absence of humans. The Rosie Pelican which laid eggs after 18 years was seen to be roaming about with its chicks. The snakes that slithered into hiding were visible and in its natural habitat.
The zoo inhabits parrots, macaw, crocodiles, sambar deer, spotted deer, fox and other birds. Senthilnathan, the park's director and doctor, says food is provided without any disturbance even during the lockdown.
No lockdown was imposed on the animals. He added, "Food is provided at the right time. Health care and personal care are provided". He says in an uninhabited park animals show its true nature. Usually people will be photographing and touching them when they visit. But he claims animals are found independent in this period.
We asked one more person about feeding the animals, and there is no room for talk of food shortages here. He said “everything is available at the right time. Speaking further he said that having the park locked is the right decision as pandemic is spreading. If any one animal is infected it spreads to all animals.”
