Cumulative rainfall of 555.5 mm recorded in Coimbatore district; Noyyal flooded

Coimbatore: As the southwest monsoon has intensified in Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore and its adjoining areas have been receiving heavy rainfall for the past two weeks. On Monday, the district recorded 555.5 mm of rainfall in a single day.

Many places including Kinathukkadavu, Pollachi, Podanur, Thondamuthur, Siruvani road, Perur, Karamadai, Thudiyalur received heavy rains from yesterday noon to late night. The total rainfall received on Monday stands at 555.5 mm.

Water inundation was reported in several areas due to heavy rains. Due to incessant rainfall in the catchment areas of Siruvani and the Western ghats, inflow to Noyyal river and Kovai Kutralam has increased. The excess water has reportedly reached Perur Padithurai, this morning.



Around, 12 thousand cubic feet of water inflow is recorded at Pillur dam and the reservoir is close to reaching its maximum capacity of 100 feet. As of Tuesday morning, the water level was measured at 97 feet and 10,000 cubic feet of water is being released from the reservoir from 9 AM today.



Due to this, the public living in the low-lying areas around Bhavani river are cautioned to stay safe.
