Plenty of shops function in the Kunnathur Town panchayat near Uthukuli in Tirupur. When a shop owner near the Kunnathur bus stand tested positive for COVID-19, shops starting from Iyengar Bakery near the bus stand up to the one in Thernilai were ordered shut.
Additionally, shops in and around the bus stand, even those not in the affected area, were closed down by the Revenue department. As a result of this, the livelihood of the traders has been affected.
For the past two weeks no shops have been opened. Hence, the Traders Association of Kunnathur petitioned the Tirupur District Collector to permit the reopening of shops other than those in the COVID-19 affected areas.
