Coimbatore: Auto driver Masanam (33) from Angalamman Kovil Road, Sulur, Coimbatore was friends with Sakthivel from the same area.
Allegedly, Sakthivel had taken away Rs 3,500 cash and two bottles of liquor from Masanam 15 days ago. A tiff has been going on between the two about this. Under the circumstances, Masanam was said to have verbally abused Sakthivel when he was out with his wife near the Sulur Association petrol bunk.
Enraged by this, Sakthivel and his friend Datchanamoorthy went to Masanam's house and hit him on the head and chest with an iron bar as a result of which Masanam died on the spot. As Masanan did not come out of the house for a long time this morning, his father went in and saw his son lying dead in a pool of blood. Upon receiving information about this, the Sulur police rushed to the spot, retrieved Masanan's body and sent it to Coimbatore GH for autopsy.
Police registered a case and arrested Sakthivel and Datchanamoorthy who were absconding. The incident caused a stir in the area.
