Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police Pavan Kumar Reddy appreciated the police officers and personnel involved in the investigation of a 2016 murder case in Meenakshipuram, under the Anaimalai Police Station limits, following the conviction of the accused by a Coimbatore court on Thursday.

The accused, Papan alias Sudhanandham (54), was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,100 by the V Additional District Court, Coimbatore.
The incident took place on September 14, 2016, when the accused, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, got into a quarrel with Karthik (23) near Meenakshipuram Railway Gate. During the altercation, the accused assaulted and pushed Karthik to the ground, causing him to sustain a serious head injury after hitting a stone.
Karthik was subsequently admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Following the investigation, a charge sheet was filed, and the case proceeded to trial. Upon completion of the trial, Judge Sivakumar of the V Additional District Court, Coimbatore, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,100.
The prosecution was conducted by Public Prosecutor Balamurugan, while Grade-I Police Constable Suresh Kumar (PC 800) attended to the court proceedings.
