Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Corporation has launched comprehensive dengue prevention measures across its jurisdiction covering 100 wards in five zones. Corporation officials have confirmed that intensive mosquito eradication activities are being conducted systematically throughout the city.

Starting from August 28, 2026, schools, colleges, hospitals, and hostels within the corporation limits will be provided with a Weekly Anti-larval Self-Inspection Checklist. These institutions are expected to use this tool to ensure that mosquito breeding does not occur within their premises and take preventive action accordingly.

The corporation administration has instructed residents to completely remove unnecessary items that facilitate dengue mosquito breeding, including tyres, tin cans, coconut shells, broken jars, coconut husks, broken pots, unused bottles, plastic containers, and similar items that collect stagnant water.

Multi-Dimensional Activities Under Operation Shield

Under the Operation Shield Multi-Dimensional Activities Against Dengue program, special teams are implementing various preventive measures within a 10-kilometer radius around areas where dengue cases have been reported.

These activities include larvicidal operations in areas where dengue has been detected, fogging, removal of water-stagnating unnecessary items, conducting special medical camps, and daily monitoring of chlorine levels in water storage facilities.

Awareness Programs and Public Cooperation

Awareness programs about mosquito breeding sites are being conducted in schools, colleges, and among the general public. Through these initiatives, the corporation aims to create widespread awareness about dengue prevention.

The corporation administration has requested schools, colleges, hospitals, and hostels to appoint a designated person to complete the weekly anti-larval self-inspection checklist and submit it to the Ward Health Inspector during their visits.

Precautionary Measures for Households

To prevent dengue in corporation areas, the administration has advised residents to remove unnecessary items that promote Aedes mosquito breeding and to clean water storage tanks once a week using bleaching powder.

Residents have also been requested to cover water storage containers properly to prevent mosquito entry. The corporation administration expects that adherence to these measures by the public will significantly reduce dengue spread.

Through these intensive measures, authorities have expressed confidence that dengue spread can be controlled effectively in the Coimbatore Corporation area.
