Water Levels Rise in Coimbatore District Dams

Water inflow is increasing in Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Sholaiyar dams located in Anaimalai, Pollachi, and Valparai areas of Coimbatore district. Water Resources Department officials report that water levels are gradually rising in all three dams. Details of water levels, inflow, and discharge as of August 20 have been released.


Coimbatore: Water inflow is increasing in major dams across Coimbatore district. Water Resources Department officials have reported that water levels are gradually rising in Aliyar, Parambikkulam, and Sholaiyar dams located in Anaimalai, Pollachi, and Valparai areas.

The Aliyar dam near Anaimalai has a total capacity of 120 feet. As of August 20, the water level stands at 62.65 feet due to inflow from the catchment areas. The dam is receiving an inflow of 288 cubic feet per second, while 200 cubic feet per second of water is being discharged.

Parambikkulam dam near Pollachi has a total capacity of 72 feet. As of August 20, the dam's water level has reached 39.35 feet, which is more than half of its total capacity. The dam is receiving an inflow of 1,159 cubic feet per second, while 35 cubic feet per second of water is being discharged.

Sholaiyar dam near Valparai has a total capacity of 160 feet. As of August 20, the dam's water level has reached 105.16 feet. Solaiyar dam is receiving an inflow of 1,176 cubic feet per second, while 1,315 cubic feet per second of water is being discharged. Water Resources Department officials stated that the dam's water level continues to rise.

The water levels in the dams are expected to rise further based on rainfall received in the catchment areas. This water inflow is anticipated to provide significant relief for agricultural and drinking water needs.
