Pongal was celebrated in a grand manner at the Corporation old age home in the city that is managed by the Eera Nenjam Trust. This Pongal, Leprosy patients were invited to the home to celebrate the festival with the inmates of the old-age home.

Uri Adithal, Tug of War and lemon and spoon competitions were conducted for the inmates of this home. The senior citizens enthusiastically took part in the events and surprised the visitors.


Passers-by who noticed the celebrations also joined the inmates of this home and this added fervour to the celebration. The Silambam performance by Tholkappiyan added more energy to the event. And, the music programme was put together by members of Thadam organisation.

One of the passer-by who witnessed the celebrations said, “We were taken aback to see the joyful performances filled with energy by the elderly people. We are happy to see them celebrate this festival in a traditional and compassionate way. We haven't celebrated Pongal with so much joy even in our homes nor have we witnessed such celebrations anywhere else.”
After the event, all the senior citizens and the leprosy patients were distributed with new clothes and gift hampers. The celebrations brought a smile on the face of the inmates and the leprosy patients who thoroughly enjoyed the moment.
Founder of Eera Nenjam Trust, P. Mahendran, thanked the well-wishers and donors for helping them at all needy times.
