On 13th January, Minister S.P. Velumani distributed Rs. 12.80 crores of gold and monetary assistance to 2481 beneficiaries under the gold for marriage assistance scheme. Coimbatore district collector T.N. Hariharan presided over the function in which Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu assembly, Pollachi Jayaraman was also present. The event was organised at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University auditorium.
When speaking in the occasion minister S.P. Velumani said, “5 types of schemes have been announced for marriage assistance for women. Moovalur Ramamirtham Memorial marriage assistance scheme, Movaaloor Ramamirtham memorial special scheme for the tribals, E.V.R. Maniammai widow's daughter marriage assistance scheme, Dr. Dharmambal Fiancial assistance to encourage widow remarriage, Dr.Muthulakshi Reddy inert-caste marriage assistance scheme.”
“Today, as part of this assistance, 878 poor women were provided Rs.25,000 as monetary assistance, and 4gram gold for the Thalikku thangam thittal at a cost of Rs.3.11 crores. Women who have completed their basic degree were provided with Rs. 50000 and 4gram gold was provided at a cost of Rs.9.69 crores. In total Rs.12.80 crores was distributed to 2481 beneficiaries.”
Rajyashaba MP A.K. Selvaraj, MPs A.P. Nagarajan, C. Mahendran, MLAs P.R.G Arunkumar, V.C.Arukutti, O.K. Chinnaraj, Amman. K.Arjunan, R. Kanakaraj, Ettimadai Shanmugam, Kasturi Vasu, District Revenue Officer Tha. Christuraj, Social Welfare Officer I. Poongothai, and government officials were present during the distribution ceremony.
