Fear gripped the residents of the people of Valparai after an adult leopard was spotted in Kalaignar Nagar, a residential colony.

A couple of days back the leopard was spotted in the Vazhaithottam area, Children's park, later at Kakkan Colony and Kamarajar Nagar. All these residential colonies are crowded with people and the movement of leopard has shocked the people. 'The increase in stray dog population is also one of the reasons that lure the leopards into residential area', said a resident of Kamarajar Nagar.

Parents were asked to keep a tight vigil on their children's and to avoid using the park until the big cat is chased into the woods. Close to the park, a goat that was reared by a woman named Kavitha was killed by a leopard.

Following these scary incidents, the natives of this region have requested the forest department officials to act immediately and trap the leopard.
