CCMCs contract sanitary workers demand that they are paid salary on par with permanent employees of CCMC

About 2000 sanitary workers are working with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC). This morning, a protest lead by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) was hosted at the Coimbatore corporation office. CCMCs sanitary workers, who work on contract, demand that they are paid salary on par with the permanent workers of CCMC.

Those (sanitary workers) who work as contract labours for the CCMC allege that they put in more amount of work in comparison to the permanent sanitary workers of the Coimbatore. One of the protestors said that salary of Rs 6,000 is provided per month and also contract workers were involved in the relief works in Chennai.

The protestors also said that they are not treated properly. “As per the labour law 25 (5) A the salary for the contract workers should be equal to the salary paid to the permanent workers. However, the state government and the Coimbatore corporation is refusing to implements this salary structure.” said one of the protestors.

The protestors also said that the Corporation representatives and the contractors are not appearing for the cases that are pending in the labour court against them. They also said that if the corporation does not find a solution to the problem they will protest before the Corporation commissioner's residence.
