Auto rickshaw drivers petition collector for regularisation of auto fares in Coimbatore

In a petition to the Coimbatore collector, the members of the drivers belonging to all the auto rickshaw associations have said that, “We conducted various protests seeking regularisation of auto rickshaw fares in the city and brought the issue to the notice of the government."

"The auto fare which was accepted by the auto drivers and as well as the public which is a minimum of Rs. 30 for a distance of 1.5 kilometres and Rs.15 each for a kilometres thereon has not been implemented. If the government fixes these rates, we are ready to accept the fares. The Tamil Nadu government is not showing interest in resolving this problem which will impact lives of thousands of auto drivers.” the petitioners stated.

They have said that corporate companies are allowed to operate autos, which will impact the livelihood of the traditional auto rickshaw owners.

“The meter fare should be regularised as per the orders of the court. The rates in our city should be fixed as it was fixed in Chennai. GPS should be installed in all the autos in the other cities as it is in Chennai. The issue of the license to operate autos in Coimbatore should be suspended temporarily as already there are more autos operated in the city.” said the petitioners.
