Coimbatore collector T.N. Hariharan has said that 157846 students of 1294 schools and 1697 anganwadis are provided 'Kalavai saatham'. Coimbatore collector inspected the Mid day meal center at the Mathampatti division school. He also checked the quality of the food that is being served at the center.

When speaking to the press following the inspection he said, “The aim is to ensure that all school students are getting proper nutrition through their food. As same kind of food was provided to the students it was decided to change the menu to serve tasty and nutritious food. As per the former chief ministers orders variety rice along with masala egg is being served. Vegetable biriyani and pepper egg is served on Mondays of first and third week of a month. On Tuesdays Channa pulav and tomato masala egg will be served, tomato rice pepper eggs will be served on Wednesdays, on Thursdays Samabar with rice and boiled egg will be served and on Fridays Karuveppilai keerai rice along with Masala egg and potato fry will be served” he said.
In the second and fourth week Bisibelabath along with Onion tomato masala egg will be served, On Tuesdays Meal maker and vegetable rice will be served along with pepper eggs, on Wednesdays Tamarind rice and tomato masala egg will be served and Thursdays Lemon rice with channa and masala egg will be served and on Fridays rice with sambar and boiled egge with potato fry will be served. Similarly the students who are studying at the anganwadi centers functioning under integrated children development works will be served food according to a new menu” he said.
“In the 1294 mid day meal centres in Coimbatore district food will be served to students studying in 773 primary schools, 269 middle schools and 244 secondary and higher secondary schools, and 9 national schools for former child labours. In total 125652 students from schools and 32193 children from 1697 anganwadis will be served food.”
“The meals that are provided as per the revised menu will help the students to not only have a healthy body but also enables the children to learn from the school without any break in education. The mid day meal centres will be upgraded with facilities to store the raw materials for cooking. The mid day meal centres have been provided with new cooking stoves and store room for placing the ingredients. Also new vessels have been provided for cooking. New cooks also have been appointed. Parents should utilise such good schemes and see that their children have complete education” he said.
