About 500 kgs of rice which was meant to be distributed through the fair price shops in Coimbatore was confiscated at the Coimbatore Junction. Sources point out that this confiscated rice was about to smuggled to Kerala through trains.
Coimbatore Railway Police received a tip-off of this consignment of rice. When they rushed to the location, the Railway Police found 500 kgs of rice meant to be distributed through the fair price shops is all set to be sent to Kerala. Railway Police confiscated the rice. However, persons who were involved in transporting this rice to neighbouring state Kerala, escaped from the Railway Police.
The rice which was confiscated was taken to the Coimbatore collector office.
