On 19th December, an elderly woman, Palaniammal (83) was found murdered at her residence in 100feet Road, Gandhipuram. She was strangulated to death during the wees hours and reports indicate that the person involved in her killing had stolen a pair of her gold bangles too. The post-moterm examination reports revealed that the woman was raped before murder.
The police set a frantic search to arrest the accused by forming special teams, under the instructions of Police Commissioner A. Amalraj. Upon, initial investigation the police suspected Sameer Khan (24) a migrant worker from Manipur to be involved in the rape and murder. This morning, the police followed Sameer to arrest him. On noticing the police, Sameer tried to jump off the bridge and sustained fractures in both his legs.
The Police admitted him to the Coimbatore General Hospital (GH) for treatment. Preliminary investigation reveal that Sameer Khan, son of Mohammed Salim hails from Manipur and has been working in Kerala in a restaurant. A few days before the murder, he had come down to Coimbatore to take part in his friend's birthday bash.
However, only upon detailed investigation the motive behind the murder and how he executed the murder would be ascertained. The rape and murder of an elderly woman by a youngster has caused shock waves among the people.
