A shocking allegation has popped in the city reporting drainage water of an apartment been rerouted into Noyyal River.
Sai Nagar in Podanur has more than 300 residential homes. Sai Amarantha a private residential apartment in the same area has around 130 apartments. It is alleged that a pipeline has been embedded in a trench leading from the Apartment complex to carry drainage water to Noyyal river, which is just half kilometer away from the place.
Understanding the veracity of the problem, Kala, Secretary, Sai Nagar, Residents Welfare Association lodged a complaint with the City Corporation officials. Upon receiving the complaint, the concerned officials rushed to the spot for investigating the same.
Speaking to the press, Kala stated that, “It has been planned to drain the sewage water from that apartment to the Noyyal River. We have registered a complaint with the Coimbatore Corporation in this regard. Assistant Engineer Kavitha who is in-charge of our area conducted an inspection. And, Podanur police were arrived to the spot.
Upon, orders by the Assistant Engineer the pit was immediately closed. We depend on Noyyal River for our livelihood. Most of us have dug bore wells, such dumping will adversely contaminate the water body, which is our predominant source of water. Action should be taken against those involved in such activities.”
Denying the Residents Welfare Association President's statement a resident of Sai Amarantha Apartment has stated that 'The apartment is still under the maintenance of the builder and the sewage drains are been removed regularly through tanker lorries as the builder is yet to set up the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). He have raised our concern and requirement of STP to the builder. And regarding the present issue, the pipe lines embedded in the trench carries water from the RO treatment plant and not from STP. Moreover, the residents of our apartment are no way involved in connection with laying the pipe lines and unaware if proper approvals were sought from the authorities by the builder for laying the pipes'.
