TNAU hosts National symposium AGMET 2016

Association of Agrometeorologists, Anand and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), Coimbatore hosted the National Symposium - AGMET 2016 Climate Driven Food Production Systems. National symposium AGMET 2016 represents an inflection point for agro meteorological intervention in climate driven food production system.

Agrometerological Interventions, providing this diverse group with the information, connections and tools they need to lead effective implementation in climate smart agriculture regime. This symposium provided an opportunity for a coalition of partners from all sectors to come together to share what they are doing on Agro- meteorological research, individually and in partnership.

The AGMET 2016 engaged approximately 270 participants, scientists from national, international institutions and government organizations, research scholars and students. 

The special lectures were intended to highlight, theme by theme, foundational knowledge and research challenges that drive our field forward as a whole, as well as provide information on  micrometeorological modification under changing climate, crop weather models in farm level decision, crop pest weather dynamics, climate variability and change, extreme weather events and food production, climate services for agriculture.



Each invited speakers summarized the state of current knowledge in their field in a manner accessible to all scientific disciplines. They also described the future research directions, the challenges in pursuing them, and the expected benefits to the society’s broad science and applications directions.



This session, organized, provided an informal forum for participants to cross-fertilize ideas and, in the process uncover innovative ideas that can accelerate climate action further, faster.

Co-hosts and participants in AGMET 2016 were provided platforms for broad and sustained agreement from current and new actors. Co-hosts and participants of AGMET2016 came together from many sectors to galvanize and spur greater action.
