Aravind Eye Hospital in association with Shriram Properties and Coimbatore District Blind Eradication Society organised an eye examination camp at Shriram Shreshta, off L&T bypass road, Madukkarai Market, Coimbatore. At this camp patients were screened by the team of experts of the Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore.
Over 200 needy people participated and benefited from this free eye camp. Cataract surgery will be performed on 15 patients free of cost at Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore. A team of eye specialists from the Aravind Eye Hospital thoroughly examined the patients for eye complications from various causes including diabetes, retinal diseases, etc.
Among those who attended the camp were patients suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure for early detection of eye complications. Besides the elderly, the camp also examined and treated children who had complications such as refractive power, watering of the eyes and squint.
“The aim of the camp is to provide the best eye care for the public and adding colour to their lives. The screening process detected cataract and glaucoma. Excessive pressure in the eyes tends to affect the optic nerve and the patients would not be aware of the fact until it affects the eye sight. The early detection will avoid such complications and save the eye sight of the people. It was a good camp where we added value to the needy people.” said a highly placed source.
