Today, members of the 'Dalit Sena' organization hosted a protest in front of the South Taluk Office, urging action to be taken on the long-pending pleas of the Dalits including current day issues like demonetization.
V. Pushphanandam, President of the lawyers division of the Dalit Sena for Coimbatore district led the protests. Advocate G. Sivalingam delivered the welcome address. Founder and President of Mother Theresa Foundation Murugesan Benjamin presided over the protests.
Jayaraj of Ambedkar Government and Government Sector Employees Welfare Society President detailed about the various demands in his special address. State Deputy leader of Dalit Sena C. Noyyalsamy, Pothuvudaimai Govindaraj and Social Worker, Tamilselvan participated in this protest.
During the protest they demanded that salary (as promised) should be provided every month to sanitary workers working on contract basis with the Coimbatore Corporation. “They should be made permanent employees. Officials of North the South zones of Coimbatore corporation are delaying the issue of ration cards and community certificates to the applicants from SC and ST community. The ration cards should be provided immediately. Issuance of free housing pattas is also one of the important demand highlighted by us, through this protest' said one of the protestors.

They also demanded action is initiated against the bank officials of nationalized banks for making the students of oppressed and backward community run from pillar to post to obtain educational loans. They also condemned the central government for the demonetization of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 rupee notes as it has adversely impacted the life of middle and lower income group people of the society.
