Coimbatore District Collector T. N. Hariharan chaired a meeting at the District Collectorate to discuss the means of issuing pending salary to the tea estate workers of Valparai . Post demonetization, it has been reported that the tea estate workers have not been paid their one month salary.

In this regard, the District Collector issued instructions to banks to issue their respective salaries with immediate effect. As per the instructions, arrangements have been made for the bank officials to visit the tea estates and distribute salaries in presence of the tea estate officials. Officials of Indian Bank, Union Bank of India and State Bank of India have been instructed to distribute salaries to the tea estate workers after getting an acceptance form from the workers. Information will be provided to the tea estates in advance about the distribution of salaries.
It has also been reported that the salary will be distributed to the tea estate workers for ten days starting from tomorrow. Tea estate workers who don’t have a bank account are advised to open bank accounts immediately.
The District Collector has also requested all the tea estate workers to co-operate with the bank officials. Kasturivasu MLA representing Valparai Assembly Constituency, District Revenue Officer Christuraj, Joint Commissioner of Labour Welfare department Marimuthu, Valaparai Town Cooperative Bank President Hameed, Bank Manager Kanakaraj, Personal Assistant to District Collector Chidambaram and bank officials participated in this meeting.
