Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) hosted TANCARE an annual health care conference at The Residency Towers in Coimbatore today. Dr. G. S. K. Velu Convener of FICCI ,TNSC health care panel and Founder and Managing Director of Trivitron group delivered the welcome address, Dr.Nalla G.Palaniswami, Chairman of Kovai Medical Center and Hospitals (KMCH) presented the theme address and Dr. G. Bakathavathsalam Chairman of K.G. Hospitals delivered the felicitation address.

Special address was given by Dr. L.P. Thangavelu Chairman Ashwin Hospital and member MCA and T. N. Hariharan, district collector of Coimbatore. The inaugural address was given by Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Principal Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, Health and Family Welfare Department and Ruban Hobday, Head of FICCI TNSC delivered the vote of thanks.
Edwin Joe, Dean of Coimbatore Medical College and Hospitals in his address said, “Healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen. Only 4% of our country’s GDP is spent on healthcare sector in India. Importance should be given to preventive medicine. Preventive medicine is taught as a subject for the MBBS students but emphasis in not given to preventive medicine later on in the educational programme or during the time of practice.”
“In today’s scenario 70% of people prefer private sector to avail health care services. Only 30% of the patients visit government hospitals for treatment due to which the government healthcare system has worsened. TANCARE initiative of FICCI will help the government healthcare sector to grow and Coimbatore will become one of the preferred health care destinations and we can supersede Chennai as the favored health care destination at any point of time.”
Dr.Nalla G.Palaniswami, Chairman KMCH will chair the session on Coimbatore a Tier II champion of healthcare delivery in India. Dr. S. Rajasabapathi, Chairman of Department of Plastic Surgery, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery and Burns at Ganga Hospital, Dr. R. Balamurugan, Chief Dialectologist of Kovai Diabetes Specialty Center and Hospital, Dr. R.V. Ramani, Founder and Managing Trustee of Sanakara Eye Care Institution and R. Vijayakumar, Managing Trustee, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital and SNR Sons charitable trust will be panellists for this session.
Panel discussion on Coimbatore example of quality in Healthcare will be moderated by Dr. Edwin Joe, Dean, CMCH in which the panellists will be Dr. Palainivelu Chairman, GEM Hospital and Research Center, Dr. Ragupathy CEO of GKNM hospitals, M. Manim Founder and Director of Microbiological laboratory, Dr. S. Parvathi, Professor in Microbiology, Hospital administrator of quality management, PSG hospitals.

The discussion on Technology as a differentiator for enhancing access and affordability in health care delivery will be moderated by Dr. G.S.K. Velu, Convener, FICCI, TNSC Healthcare Panel and founder and MD of Trivitron group and the panellists for the session will be Dr. Sumanth Raman, Head-Healthcare Innovation at TCS Ltd., Dr. D. Ramamurthy, Chairman, The Eye Foundation, Dr. David V. Rajan of Ortho One Orthopaedic Speciality Center and Dr. TP Kalanithi, Dean Karpagam Faculty of Medical Sciences and Research.
