DDL a private jewellery manufacturing company is located in Coimbatore. The diamond polishing units of this company are located in Narasimanaickenpalayam, Kavundampalayam and Sulur. The company management closed the Sulur unit and transferred the employees to its Narasimanaickenpalayam unit, overnight.
Employees who used to work at the Sulur unit are protesting against the management’s decision to relocate their work place of. In this regard, today, the employees staged a sit in protest before the Coimbatore collector’s office. They also raised slogans against the company’s move of closing the Sulur unit. It may be noted that a majority of the employees of this unit are women. The employees stated that distance from Sulur to Narasimanaickenpalayam is 40 kms and they cannot travel this distance every day.
They also said the manufacturing unit at Sulur should continue to function. As a part of their protest, the women employees surrounded the Coimbatore District Collectorate. The collector, upon receiving information about this protest, interacted with the women and assured them that necessary action will be taken.
