It's a proud moment for the City of Coimbatore, as Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has been awarded with the prestigious 'Digital India' award by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Coimbatore Corporation was selected to receive this award for it's exemplary service through it's digital initiatives and citizen engagement.

CCMC won the award in the Most Innovation Citizen Engagement category along with the Govt of India mygov.in platform and P. M gram Sadhek Yojana. This award means our city has the maximum citizen engagement, digitally. It may be noted that CCMC has 26 projects, WhatsApp based groups with citizens and has successfully run 40 projects engaging various citizens and organizations for various developmental activities of the city.
CCMC's Special Officer, Dr.K. Vijayakarthikeyan received the award this morning, from Ravishankar Prasad, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Law and Justice in the presence of P.P Chaudhary, Minister State Electronics and Information Technology, Law and Justice at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. During this award ceremony, Aruna Sundarajan, Secretary, Electronics and Information Technology, Ajaykumar, Additional Secretary, Informatics Centre, Neeta Verma, Cheif - Informatics Centre, Alka Mishra, Director, Department of Technology and many other dignitaries were present.
Upon receiving this prestigious award, CCMC's Special Officer, Dr.K. Vijayakarthikeyan through a WhatsApp message conveyed “Thank you friends, Happy and fortunate to have a wonderful team around me to propel all the initiatives. My sincere wishes and thanks to the entire team. Nine awards this year and 17 awards in two years (including three from various ministries of government of India) would not have been possible without all your support! Let's keep working harder! One of the team members who has closely worked with the Corporation commissioner said “It's all because of our commissioner sir’s active participation with all the citizens in various forums, encouraging all of them and providing platform for all of them to together develop the city which is our dream. A few projects that have been successfully implemented are #Mostinnovativecitizenencagement, #whatsapprevolution, #iamthechange among others. I am happy to be part of this as a citizen”
The Digital India Awards, constituted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, acknowledges exemplary initiatives and practices of various states and union territories in the realm of e-governance. The digital India programme by the central government aims at universal access of information to the people through digital services. Diverse services, schemes and initiatives announced or proposed by the central/state/local bodies is easily accessible to the people after digitization.
Nominations for this award were invited from states and union territories and local bodies under varied categories. This year, three new categories have been introduced to the existing awards, Web Ratna District, Outstanding Digital initiative by Local body and Best Mobile App'.
