‘Guru Brahma Gurur Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwaraha Guru Saakshat Para Brahma Tasmai Sree Gurave Namaha’, goes a well heard verse. This, when translated means Guru (teacher) is verily the representative of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. He creates, sustains knowledge and destroys the weeds of ignorance. Such is the value of a teacher.

In order to recognize those from the teaching community for their tireless services that they have rendered in the field of education, from the year 2009 onwards, Nehru Group of Institutions honours deserving teachers with the Best Faculty Award and Life Time Achievement Award. In the memory of its founder, on his birthday 15 December, P. K. Das Memorial Best Faculty Award and Life Time Achievement Awards are formally presented to those from the teaching community. This year too, P. K. Das Memorial Best Faculty Award and Life Time Achievement Award was organized at the P. K. Das Memorial Auditorium, yesterday, (15 December).

This year the Best Faculty Award was presented to 10 teachers in the arts and science category and about a dozen teachers were awarded with the Best Faculty Award in the engineering category. Two teachers were honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award.

Dr. B. Anirudhan, Principal, Nehru Arts and Science College, in his welcome address congratulated the winners whole heartedly. He introduced Adv. P. Krishnadas, Managing Trustee of Nehru Group of Institutions, Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO and Secretary of NGI, Chief Guest, Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Director, AICTE, New Delhi . Dr.B. Ilango, Chief Jury, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathiar University.
Adv. P. Krishnadas, Managing Trustee of Nehru Group of Institutions presided over the function. He congratulated the winners and encouraged the spectators to achieve the same in future. He insisted that the growth of this great institution lies in vision of his father, beloved Founder Chairman Late P. K. Das. He stated that the quality of NGI is in the hands of the faculty members. He also dignified the Guru is placed before even God.

Dr. Manpreet Singh Manna, Director, AICTE, New Delhi was the Chief Guest for this award ceremony. In his address, he emphasized the purpose and scope for the teachers to upgrade their knowledge. He praised the great vision of the Founder Chairman Late P. K. Das and his strong will of starting the education institutions in those days. He emphasized that everyone should get visionary from great people.

He also pin – pointed, that being a teacher one must transform the thought to action. He posted the importance of research and stated that “Everything is available in India and we should not depend on other countries for anything. The problem in India is that we are not giving importance to accountability of thoughts and ideas. In foreign countries faculties strive hard to maintain the consistency in their domain. Indian faculties should hone their skills to compete with the emerging global needs.”
