Court orders confiscation of government buses for failing to provide compensation to victim

Benjamin (22) from Madhampatti in Coimbatore was involved in selling tender coconut. On 3 February 2010, while he was riding his motorcycle, he was hit by a Government bus that was travelling from Perur to Mathampatti. Benjamin died on the spot.

Perur police registered a case in this regard. Subsequently, Benjamin’s wife Kavitha, filed a case at the Coimbatore integrated court seeking compensation. Judge ordered the transport corporation to pay a compensation of Rs.6.57 lakhs.

It has been reported that the transport department officials failed to pay the compensation following which the court today ordered confiscation of this bus and currently this bus is stationed at the Coimbatore court premises.
