Last year around the same time, our state was struggling to deal with heavy rainfall. This year, post the cyclone vardah, Chennai and other parts of our state are limping back to life. Back home, in Coimbatore, the rainfall report as on 15 December that was released by the National Informatics Centre Chennai, fails to bring a smile on people’s face as the monsoons have failed to bring rains as per the predictions.
Rain gauge station wise rainfall report for Coimbatore, points out that the total rainfall that has been received by this region is 57.60 mm while the average rainfall received by this region 4.80 mm. Regions like Valparai taluk office, Valparai Pap, Chinakalar, Annur and Pollachi have recorded nil (0) rainfall. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has received 3 mm of rainfall while areas like Mettupalayam, Sulur and Coimbatore South have received 5.40 mm, 6.20 mm and 8 mm of rainfall respectively.
