Pethan and Jakkammal are from Vettaikaranputhur near Pollachi in Coimbatore district. Jakkammal is the second wife of Pethan. It has been reported that Pethan poured kerosene on Jakkammal and set her on fire. Jakkammal succumbed to her burn injuries. This case came up for hearing in court. Judge Christopher of the Special court who was hearing this case has granted life sentence for Pethan.
