In an effort to curb the usage of plastic shopping bags, My Shopping My Bag initiative has been launched by the Coimbatore Corporation. As a part of this initiative, women from all walks of life are being trained, by specialists, on how to make their own eco-friendly shopping bags using easily available raw materials.

Overwhelmed by the response the volunteers of this movement received from their debut workshop, a workshop in this direction was hosted today at the Brookefields Mall. My Shopping My Bag successfully hosted its second workshop to train women to make their own shopping bags. Away from the hustle and the bustle of the venue, that is recognized as one of the hubs for shopping, this eco-friendly bag making workshop was in progress.
The gloomy weather outside didn’t dampen the spirits of the women who participated in this workshop. The room at this Mall was filled with excitement, the same excitement that any woman will experience when she goes shopping at this mall.

At this workshop, old and un-used pieces of apparels and cloth were transformed to beautiful shopping bags. About 30 women who participated in this workshop listened with rapt attention as the trainer demonstrated how to make eco-friendly shopping bags from scratch. Durgesh Nandhini, one of the volunteer hosted a session on the harmful effects of plastic bags.
Towards the end of this workshop, the organizers were a happy lot. The aim of this workshop is to spread the message of the ill-effects of plastic bags on our environment and ultimately how a change to eco-friendly shopping bags can transform and restore the environment.
