A herd of ten elephants continue to camp in Vaagamalai estate, Valparai.

A herd of ten elephants including calfs' have camped at the Vaagamalai Estate, Valparai. The failure of Northeast monsoons has created a huge scarcity of fodder for the wild animals in the western ghats region. 

In search of food and water, these animals especially the elephants entering the residential areas, homes, shops, schools, mid day meal centres' and ration shops has doubled up in The herd in the Vaagamalai estate has camped in the place for more than a week now, this has instilled fear in the minds of the estate workers. 



The forest department officials have instructed the estate workers, public and the tourist to stay away from the herd and not to cause any disturbance and make them ferocious. However, a team of forest department staff are keeping a vigil on the animal movement and ensuring the safety of the workers,
