Inmates of the RS Puram Corporation Shelter Home now have Aadhar Cards!

The inmates of the corporation home for the destitute, located in R S Puram is managed by city-based NGO Eera Nenjam. More than 30 senior citizens, who are disowned by their family and the destitute stay in this shelter home.

As the inmates did not possess any identity cards issued by the government, they were increasingly finding it 'impossible' to access the government schemes announced for the welfare of the down trodden. Understanding the need for an identification for the inmates, the trust approached the concerned officials to kick-start the process for procuring Aadhar cards for them.

Through continued efforts, the trust with the help of VAO today organised an Aadhar Camp at their premise.

'Few inmates had all the documents required to enrol for Aadhar, while others did not have any proof of identity or address. To such persons, by producing a letter to the VAO from our trust confirming their stay in the shelter home, Aadhar cards were obtained. The camp started on Monday and so far, 30 inmates have obtained their cards. This has given the inmates, a sense of identity and belonging. Now the inmates can access various benefits provided by governments and all special subsidies for the senior citizens' said Mahendran, Founder of Eera Nenjam Trust.
