Cyclone Nada to bring more rain on Friday

After four months, Bengaluru will receive about 15mm of rainfall daily for the next few days as a result of cyclone Nada heading towards the Tamil Nadu coast. On Thursday evening, it drizzled in parts of Bengaluru and the rest of the state.

Though cyclone Nada is weakening, rain has been forecast for Karnataka on Friday as well. The meteorological department said Karnataka continued to remain dry on Thursday but the temperature dropped in interior parts of the state. There was no change in temperature in the coastal regions. Bagalkote recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 10.8 degrees Celsius in the state.

SM Metri, director-in-charge, met department, Bengaluru, said: "We are not expecting heavy showers but light rain will occur in certain parts of the state on Friday. While cloud cover will increase, temperatures may slightly dip further."

Shivaramu H S, professor and head, Agro-Meteorology Consortium, said, "These showers should last for about seven days. The last rainfall in the city was on October 13, about 12.5mm. It is good news for mango and grape farmers but ragi/millet farmers are not supposed to harvest their crops (they need to harvest after a week)."

The cyclonic storm is likely to weaken into a deep depression in the next 12 hours and cross the north Tamil Nadu coast between Vedaranniyam and Puducherry, south of Cuddalore during the early hours of Friday (December 2).
