Volunteers rejoice, as new leaves sprout up from trees transplanted from Pollachi road.

In a process to widen the roads on Pollachi - Coimbatore, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has planned to tranform the present two-lane roads into four-lane involving an estimated projection cost of Rs. 500 crore, covering a stretch of 26.85 km.

In view of the same, trees adjoining the sides of the Pollachi - Coimbatore roads were cut by the city administration department. On learning this, few voluntary organisations involved in 'green cover' met the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, VijayaKarthikeyan and requested him to relocate the trees instead of cutting them down.

Upon orders by CCMC Commissioner, the trees on the Sundarapuram road were transplanted to the Rathinam College campus on Echanari Road. Now, the trees that were relocated have started to show up new leaves and branches, as a sign of roots grasped well to the new atmosphere.

These new twigs have brought smiles in the faces of the Volunteers who suugested this operation to safequard the age-old trees rather than turning them to burning woods or furnitures.

It has been reported that the relocated trees have started to grow again. Volunteers who were involved in relocating  exercise are happy to seeing the trees get back to life.
