Tamilnadu division of Indian Council of Child Welfare and The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) joined hands to organise a two day conference on child care. The event was hosted at the Sree Annapoorna Kalaiarangam in RS Puram. This two day conference that was inaugurated yesterday will conclude today.

Coimbatore collector T.N. Hariharan was the chief guest for this event and he delivered the special address. Chandradevi Assistant Director of The Tamilnadu Indian Council of Child Welfare welcomed the gathering. Presidential address was delivered by Nirmala, Vice President, Indian Council of Child Welfare.

Important subjects like child care, adoption were discussed as a part of this two day conference. Child welfare officers from 11 districts, heads and representatives of various child care NGOs, Chandira Thanikachalam, Assistant Head of Indian Council of Child Welfare, General Manager Girija Kumarababu, Suja Professor from Amirtha University, Coimbatore, teachers, parents, participated in the conference.

Speaking at this conference, Coimbatore collector T.N. Hariharan said “Children need a healthy environment at home to grow. Dysfunctional families and parents separating has an impact on the child’s growth. Regardless of our social background, we must ensure that we create a happy atmosphere in our homes for our children.”

“The Chief Minister J Jayalalitha’s cradle scheme has saved several innocent infants from being disowned and killed. Social issues related to children like child abuse, child labour among other issues cannot be tackled by the Government alone. It is the responsibility of the public to join hands with the Government in dealing with such issues. Only then will there be an end to such issues.”

“In order to safeguard the interest of the children, a law was introduced in 2015. As per this law strict action will be taken against NGOs and child care homes who fail to register and obtain the necessary permission to run their respective centre.”
