Traffic deviations in T Nagar for pedestrian plaza trial run

The plan to set up in T Nagar the city's first pedestrian plaza is gathering steam, with the corporation set to hold a trial run from 9am to 12.30pm on Sunday.

A corporation official said only buses and two-wheelers will be allowed from Bashyam Road (Panagal Park) towards Anna Salai. Cars, autos, share autos, vans will have to take a diversion at GN Chetty Road and turn right on Dr Nair Road. In the opposite direction too, only MTC buses and two-wheelers will be allowed to ply from Anna Salai towards Bashyam Road. All others will have to take a diversion at Thanikachalam Road and turn right on Venkata Naranayana Road to reach Bashyam Road.

More than a dozen interior roads will be closed for vehicular traffic but can be used by the residents there. No vehicle will be allowed from GN Chetty Road to Raja Mannar Street, Kamalabai Street and Muthu Krishnan Street. Vehicles also can't go from Venkatanarayana Road to Nana Street, Sivagnanam Street, Deena Dayalu Street, Sundaram Street, Sivaprakasam Street, Kannadasan Street, Bagavandham Street and Raja Street.

Those wanting to shop in Pondy Bazaar can park cars on Bashyam Road, in front of Panagal Park, if they are coming from Prakasam Road and GN Chetty Road. Two-wheelers can be parked on the corporation school ground near Prakasam Road.

Cars and bikes going towards Thyagaraya Road from Anna Salai, Thanikachalam Road and Dr Nair Road can park opposite Indian Oil petrol bunk on Thanikachalam Road. On-street parking space will also be available near the Boag Road-Dr Nair Road junction.

Eco-friendly battery operated cars will be operated for short distances on both sides of Thyagaraya Road for senior citizens, differently-abled, children and pregnant women, said a corporation release.
