IISc professor wins Infosys Science Prize in Engineering category

A professor from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was among the six winners of the prestigious Infosys Science Prize 2016. The announcement made on Friday saw Professor V Kumaran, Department of Chemical Engineering, IISc being awarded in the Engineering and Computer Science category.

The awards were announced by NR Nayana Murthy and SD Shibulal, Board of Trustees, Infosys Science Foundation.

Winning in 5 other categories were Prof Sunil Amrith, Department of History, Harvard University in the Humanities category; Dr Gagandeep Kang, Translational Health Science and Technical Institute, Faridabad (Life Sciences); Prof Akshay Venkatesh, Department of Mathematics, Stanford University, USA (Mathematical Science); Dr Anil Bharadwaj, Director, Space Physics Lab, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (Physical Sciences) and Prof Kaivan Munshi, Faculty of Economics, University of Cambridge winning in the Social Sciences category.

The ISF is the highest research prize in India. Winners of the award receive a Rs 50 lakh cash prize. The awards will be given away on January 7, 2017, by Prof Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, the structural biologist and President of the Royal Society.
