SDPI members protest against ban of 500 and 1000 rupees currency notes

About 50 members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) gathered before the Railway Station branch of State Bank of India (SBI) to protest against the Central Government’s decision to ban currency of 500 and 1,000 denominations.

The protestors allege that this overnight decision of the Government at the centre has caused a lot of hardship to the public from all walks of life. Even the people who live in the rural pockets are not spared of hardships due to this.

“The purpose of the ATMs is to dispense cash. However, a majority of these machines in our city are cashless. Unable to draw cash from the ATMs the cash stripped public is finding it increasingly difficult to meet their daily expense. The banks that exchange old currency for new notes too are overcrowded. This has left the public in the lurch.” said one of the protestors.

Furthermore, the angry protestors also hurled slippers at a cut out of Arun Jaitley, Finance Minister of India. The protestors of the SDPI tried to enter this bank, however they were prevented from doing so. The police arrested the protestors.
